This past Saturday night, Boxing’s #1 Pound 4 Pound Fighter Canelo Alvarez proved once again why he is the best fighter in the sport. Billy Joe Saunders did a great job using that big ring size he asked for to box Canelo beautifully. As the fight move on, however, Canelo got closer and closer to laying the boom on him.
Canelo did a great job cutting off the ring on Saunders while blasting him with hard body shots. This fight was closer than a lot of experts thought heading into round 8. In round 8, Saunders continued to circle and box Canelo. Canelo continued to stalk Saunders.

As round 8 continued, Canelo caught Saunders in between the boxing with a vicious right uppercut that sent him on the defense. The uppercut broke Saunders’ right orbital bone. Canelo continued his onslaught on Saunders with hard shots to the body and head. Saunders could not see the shots coming from Canelo and simply survived round 8.
When the two fighters went back to their corners at the end of round 8, Saunders suffered a broken right orbital bone along with several other fractures to the right side of his face. Saunders was unable to answer the bell for round 9, and Canelo Alvarez was awarded the 8th round TKO victory.
Canelo is now unified WBC, WBA (Super), WBO, and RING super-middleweight champion. As for Billy Joe Saunders, it would be the first loss of his professional boxing career.
Conclusion
Canelo is just ripping through everyone from 160 to 175 pounds. Saunders did a great job boxing him, but Canelo right now is just a step ahead of the fighters in the 168-pound division. It’s looking as though it will be ‘Sweethands’ Caleb Plant next to test Canelo.
Will there be anything that Plant can do to upset the Canelo applecart? Billy Joe Saunders may have been the best chance at 168 pounds and Canelo stopped him. Look out Boxing World, because the way Canelo is ripping through opponents right now, he may never lose again.
