Canelo Alvarez bit off a little more than he could chew this past Saturday night. Dmitry Bivol proved to be too big, too skilled, and too disciplined. Bivol controlled the fight by using distance to keep Canelo’s onslaught in front of him.

Bivol did not fade down the stretch as most of Canelo’s opponents do. With that said, Bivol dealt with all that Canelo brought to the table. Canelo vs. Bivol boiled down to a small skilled fighter vs. a big skilled fighter.
When you have that combination, usually the bigger skilled fighter wins. Well, that’s what happened in the Canelo vs. Bivol fight. Canelo tried to move forward and get his body shots off, but Bivol was discipline. He gave Canelo problems all night.
Bivol boxed beautifully, and when the fight was coming down the stretch, the boxing world wondered if Bivol would get the decision over Canelo. Well, at the end of 12 rounds, this fight went to the judges’ scorecards.
Bivol got the 12th round unanimous decision victory. He retained his WBA light-heavyweight title. Canelo fought a good fight, but Bivol was too much for him. You have to give credit to Canelo for going up to light-heavyweight to challenge one of the best light-heavyweights in the world.
