The Anthony Joshua vs. Dillian Whyte rematch is on for August 12, 2023. The O2 Arena in Greenwich, London, England, will be the location for the rematch. The last time these two fighters were in the ring together was eight years ago.
Joshua won the first meeting by 7th round TKO victory. After beating Whyte in their first meeting, Joshua lost the first fight of his professional boxing career to Andy ‘Destroyer’ Ruiz, Jr. Joshua lost his WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO heavyweight titles. The loss to Ruiz, Jr., was considered by most boxing fans as the second boxing upset in boxing history.
After losing to Ruiz, Jr., Joshua bounced back to win two fights, and one of those fights was an avenging win over Andy ‘Destroyer’ Ruiz, Jr. After winning back his titles, Joshua went on to lose his titles again. This time he lost his WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO heavyweight titles to Oleksandr Usyk.
After losing to Anthony Joshua in their first fight, Whyte went on an eleven-fight win streak before losing to Alexander Povetkin.
Whyte did get his shot at the WBC, Lineal, and RING heavyweight champion ‘The Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury back in April of 2022 but got stopped by Fury in round 6.
Now Joshua and Whyte’s paths will cross again after eight years. What do you think, Boxing World? Is this the fight you want to see?
