On March 26, 2016, one of the best fighters in the sport will return to the ring to prove to the boxing world that he is still the best pound 4 pound fighter in the sport when he is active. Andre Ward has only fought 3 times since 2012, but what the boxing world needs to realize is when he does step into the ring, he is head and shoulders above the rest of the fighters in the sport in my humble opinion.
Andre ‘S.O.G.’ Ward is moving up to the light heavyweight division on March 26, and his opponent will be the undefeated prospect Sullivan Barrera. The fight will take place in Ward’s back yard at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California which has been a hot bed for Ward as he has fought at the Oracle 2 out of his last 3 fights. Sullivan is no slouch so Ward will have his work cut out for him in this fight.

Sullivan Barrera
So who is Sullivan Barrera? Well he is an up and coming undefeated light heavyweight who has 17 wins and 12 of those wins came by way of knockout. Sullivan has been on a knockout binge lately as he has either knocked out or retired his last 6 opponents. Now, none of those fighters are on Andre Ward’s level, but he did score knockout victories over the likes of Jeff ‘Left Hook’ Lacy and Karo Murat.
Jeff Lacy has been fading for a while now, but the Karo Murat knockout is impressive given how Murat is always tough for whoever steps into the ring with him. Now Barrera will get the honor of introducing Andre Ward to the light heavyweight division. Can Barrera shock the world on March 26 by stopping the best fighter in the sport in his tracks? Well he definitely has the knockout power to do it so March 26 will tell the story.

Andre ‘S.O.G.’ Ward
Andre Ward’s inactivity in the ring has created a huge debate in the boxing world as to which fighter is the true best pound 4 pound fighter in the sport. Now, Potshot Boxing (PSB) has kept Andre Ward as the #1 pound 4 pound fighter in the sport due to his ability to return to the ring and dominant when he is active.
There are a lot of fighters in the sport that deserve the title “best pound 4 pound fighter in sport.” Fighters like Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin, Sergey ‘Krusher’ Kovalev, and Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez all deserve consideration for the title “best pound 4 pound fighter in the sport,” but again, when Andre Ward is fighting, he is head and shoulders above all of those fighters mentioned in my humble opinion.
Ward has dominated his last 3 fights dating back to 2012 when he fought ‘Bad’ Chad Dawson and flat out made Dawson quit in round 10. After the Dawson fight, Ward took a year off and return to the ring in late 2013 to fight then undefeated Edwin ‘La Bomba’ Rodriguez. Rodriguez was a dangerous fighter that Ward simply overwhelmed with his unbelievable boxing skills to cruise to a unanimous decision victory.
After the Rodriguez fight, Ward took an almost 2 year layoff and returned to the ring in June of 2015 to face an overmatched Paul ‘Real Gone Kid’ Smith. Now, Smith was just out of his league against Ward so you really cannot count this fight as an impressive fight for Ward, but what was impressive is the fact that Ward came off an almost 2 year layoff to stop the overmatched Smith in 9 brutal rounds.
Now Ward will be coming off yet another layoff, but this time he will definitely be tested against a very dangerous Sullivan Barrera on March 26. Moving up to the light heavyweight division will be no easy feat for Ward, but I am sure that he is going to show the boxing world why he should be considered as the best pound 4 pound fighter in the sport.
Conclusion
The Andre Ward vs. Sullivan Barrera fight should be a good one on March 26. Ward will be testing the waters at 175 pounds, and Barrera is a hungry fighter ready to knockout any fighter in his way. Can Ward pass the light heavyweight test? Well he will have his hometown crowd cheering him on to beat a very good Sullivan Barrera.
If Andre Ward can get pass Sullivan Barrera on March 26, the boxing world may see him face off against the true light heavyweight champion Sergey ‘Krusher’ Kovalev in the future. But as for now, however, Ward has a big monster standing in the way name Sullivan Barrera that he needs to chop down.
