On May 6, 2017, HBO PPV is going to bring the boxing world a potential fight of the year matchup. Cinco De Mayo weekend! Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. clearly have some animosity towards each other which is going to make for an intense showdown.

This catchweight fight, however, may play right into the hands of Canelo Alvarez. Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. only comes straightforward so he will be in the wheelhouse of Canelo the entire night. Chavez, Jr. looks to be in the best shape of his life for once so Canelo better not take him lightly. Both of these guys have what it take to knock the other guy out so I will not be surprised if either fighter gets put to sleep on Saturday night.
The thing that a lot of people do not give Canelo credit for is his patience. I expect for Canelo to patiently box smart against the relentless Chavez, Jr. and take advantage of Chavez Jr.’s lunging in to get his shots off. Chavez, Jr. is needs to change his relentless game plan heading into this fight with Canelo by using his size and reach to keep Canelo at bay.
If Chavez, Jr. can somehow surprise Canelo by using his long jab, thus, turning Canelo into the aggressor in the fight, then he may have a chance to win this fight. I just believe, however, that in the end, Chavez, Jr. will try to use his relentless boxing style to break Canelo’s will and it is going to backfire on him.
