On February 9, 2019, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis will get his first crack at a big-name fighter. The Gervonta Davis vs. Abner Mares fight will take place at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, and Showtime will air this fight.
Davis will be looking to make a big splash on the boxing world by defending his WBA junior lightweight title against a gamed Abner Mares. Mares is coming off a 12th round unanimous decision loss to Leo Santa Cruz in their rematch back on June 9, 2018.
Mares gave Santa Cruz all he could handle, but in the end, Santa Cruz’s skills won the night in that exciting fight. In Davis’ last fight, he dominated Jesus Cuellar en route to a 3rd stoppage. Now Davis gets to face off against Mares who will test the upstart WBA junior lightweight champion.
