Another fight the boxing world continues to clamor over once the coronavirus pandemic is under control is Claressa ‘T-Rex’ Shields vs. Laila ‘She Be Stingin’’ Ali. Now there are no serious negotiations for a Shields vs. Ali fight, but these two women have been going back and forth taking shots at each other through the media.
In the trash talk between the two women, both have made their negotiations off record as to how the purses should be split if a fight were to happen. Ali has expressed that she in shape, (not boxing shape), but in shape, thus, she can get in shape if a possible fight with Shields would happen.
She also expressed that she has a lot of other ventures going on right now as well as her kids to consider, thus, she has a lot to think about before accepting a fight with Shields. Shields stated that she is ready to fight Ali at any time.
Shields also expressed that she feels Ali does not want to fight, but if Ali decides to fight her, she will be ready. Now Shields is 25 years old, while Ali is 42 years old. Shields is the current undisputed Women’s middleweight champion, and unified WBC and WBO Women’s junior middleweight champion.
Ali, on the other hand, has not fought in 13 years. If a fight between Shields and Ali ever happens, will Shields be in a lose-lose situation given how long Ali has been out of the ring? It seems as though Ali would have everything to gain and Shields has everything to lose.
If Ali wins a potential fight between, she and Shields, it will be one of the best comebacks in Women’s boxing history. If Shields wins, however, most of the boxing world and fans will point to the 13-year boxing layoff of Ali, thus, state Shields should beat Ali.
So, what do you think Boxing World? Is Claressa Shields in a lose-lose situation?
