On January 18, 2020, Julian ‘J. Rock’ Williams will be making the first defense of his WBA, IBF, and IBO junior middleweight titles against Jeison ‘Banana’ Rosario. Williams vs. Rosario will take place in Williams’ home city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Liacouras Center.
Williams is coming off a 2019 fight of the year candidate fight against Jarrett ‘Swift’ Hurd back on May 11, 2019. In that fight, Williams out-slicked Hurd to capture the WBA, IBF, and IBO junior middleweight titles. Now Williams will be taking on a tough opponent in Jeison Rosario.
With that said, Williams will not be taking his first junior middleweight title defense lightly. If Williams gets through his fight with Rosario this Saturday night, there is a huge possibility that he will be in line for a showdown with WBC junior middleweight champion Jermell ‘IronMan’ Charlo.
Williams already fought Charlo’s twin brother Jermall ‘Hitman’ Charlo and lost that fight. That was Williams’ first crack at a world title as he challenged Jermall Charlo for the IBF junior middleweight title. If a potential Jermell Charlo vs. Julian Williams junior middleweight unification fight is made, that fight could be a 2020 fight of the year candidate kind of fight.
Jermell Charlo’s good boxing and effective aggression, mixed with Julian Williams’ slickness and counterpunching would make for a boxing war. Boxing World, would you like to see a junior middleweight unification showdown between Jermell Charlo and Julian Williams if Williams defeats Rosario on Saturday night?
