Jhonny Gonzalez gets back into the featherweight boxing picture when he knocked out Abner Mares in dramatic fashion. Gonzalez dropped Mares twice in the first round to once again capture the WBC featherweight championship.
Wow!! Wow!! Wow!! Like I said in my prediction post on yesterday, Mares should win the fight, but he had to stay away from the devastating power-punching of Gonzalez. Mares suffers the first loss of his professional boxing career.
Jhonny Gonzalez is back on top for now, but I would definitely like to see a rematch between these two fighters just to see if Mares can cover up the next time out and hold Gonzalez if he were to get in trouble in a possible rematch given that tonight Mares did not tie up Gonzalez when he got up off of the canvas from the first knock down in the first round of this fight tonight.
