On March 24, 2019, Sergey ‘Samurai’ Lipinets went into the MGM Grand National Harbor boxing ring and wore down hometown favorite Lamont ‘Havoc’ Peterson. Peterson started out early on in this fight by using his good jab and boxing to keep Lipinets’ aggressive offense at bay.
As the fight moved on, however, Lipinets started to walk through the jabs and heavy body shots he was absorbing from Peterson and started to land heavy shots of his own. The accumulation of punishment mixed in with the effective aggressiveness of Lipinets took its toll on Peterson late.
In round 10, Lipinets landed a barrage of punches on Peterson that sent him to the canvas. Peterson’s trainer Barry Hunter immediately threw in the towel and Sergey Lipinets was awarded the 10th round TKO victory.
After the fight, a very disappointed Peterson announced his retirement to his hometown DC boxing crowd. Peterson was given a well-deserved standing ovation by the MGM Grand boxing crowd.
Over Peterson’s professional boxing career, he captured the WBA and IBF junior welterweight titles, and later in his career captured the WBA welterweight title.
Peterson was a great champion who never cheated the boxing world with his effort. How would you rate Lamont ‘Havoc’ Peterson’s professional boxing career? Leave a comment at the bottom of this post.
