Vasyl ‘Hi-Tech’ Lomachenko further makes his case as to why he is the most gifted fighter in the sport of Boxing. The Madison Square Garden boxing crowd witnessed Loma get off the canvas for the first time in his professional boxing career and find a way to best a gamed Jorge ‘Golden Boy’ Linares. Outside of Orlando Salido, Linares proved to be by far the toughest fight of Loma’s professional boxing career.
Linares brought the fight to Loma and truly tested Loma’s ‘Hi-Tech.’ This fight turned out to be exactly what the Boxing World thought it be; a tale of speed and footwork.
Great action and drama were displayed as in the 6th round Jorge Linares caught Loma with a short-straight right hand that sent Loma to the canvas. Loma got up from the shocking right hand and used his ‘Hi-Tech’ skills to continue to fight.

As the fight moved on, Loma got his wits back and starting to use his great movement and combination punching to take back control of the fight while bloodying Linares’ left-eye in the process. Now, heading into the 10th round, before Linares’ demise, this was a give and take fight. In the 10th round, Loma stepped up the pace as he ripped Linares with hard combinations.
Linares was holding his own in the 10th, but Loma started to step up the speed. Linares started to cover up as the speed from Loma started to accurately land from different angles. In the covering up, Linares left his body open and Loma landed a vicious left-hook to Linares’ body that sent Linares straight down to the canvas. (Liver Shot) Linares stayed on the canvas as the referee started to count.
As the count got towards the end, Linares got up off the canvas, but by then it was too late. The referee stopped the fight, and Vasyl ‘Hi-Tech’ Lomachenko was awarded the 10th round TKO victory. With the win, Loma captured the WBA lightweight title, thus, becoming the fastest to win world titles in 3 different weight divisions.
Conclusion
This fight was closer than you may think. Before the stoppage of Linares, the official judges’ scorecards have one judge scoring the fight for Loma, one judge scoring the fight for Linares, and the other judge had the fight even. With that said, Loma really had to dig deep to win this fight and he did. Loma is not Potshot Boxing’s (PSB) #1 Pound 4 Pound Fighter, but he is definitely starting to grow on PSB.
Linares put on a great performance last night in defeat and deserves a rematch with Loma. Will he get it? He should, but with so much money for bigger fights landing in the lap of Loma, the Boxing World will have to wait and see. Who should Loma fight next?
