Boxing or Power? Which one wins? Check out Potshot Boxing’s prediction for the upcoming fight between Nathan Cleverly and Sergey Kovalev!!
Nathan Cleverly, 26-0 (12 KO’s), will enter the ring this Saturday night in front of his home crowd in Wales, United Kingdom looking to further cement his place as one of the best in the light heavyweight division; but his is going up against by far the toughest test of his career in knockout artist Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev, 21-0-1 (19 KO’s.)
Cleverly is taking a big step up in competition; and putting his WBO light heavyweight title on the line this Saturday against such a hard puncher like Kovalev is risky for Cleverly because he can be hit at times and Kovalev is the wrong guy to take a hard shot from so look out!!
This fight between two undefeated will boil down to two factors: Cleverly’s boxing and Kovalev’s explosive power. This fight reminds me of the fight I saw between Andre Berto and Jesus Soto Karass back in July.
If Cleverly effectively use his jab and box Kovalev Saturday night then he should win easy given that he does not run out of gas in the later rounds like he is known to do. However, if Cleverly decides that he wants to go toe to toe with this knockout beast in Kovalev, then it can be a long and painful night for Cleverly.
In the end, I believe that this fight will not go the distance because I do not believe that Kovalev is not going to allow Cleverly to dictate the fight, so Cleverly will have to do something very difficult to pull off this victory; knockout Kovalev in the later rounds and try not to run out of gas, and I believe he will in front of the ruckus crowd in Wales.
Prediction: Kovalev by TKO.
