Today, Gennadiy ‘GGG’ Golovkin put on a dominant performance against Ryota Murata. Golovkin started the fight off a little shaky as Murata used unbelievable aggression to back up Golovkin and land good body shots that hurt him.
All fight long, however, Golovkin used his signature jab and brutal punching to damage Murata. Murata started to slow down in round 6 as Golovkin’s brutal punching took its toll on him. Once Golovkin gained control of the fight and started backing Murata up, the fight was over.
From rounds 7 thru 9, Golovkin gave Murata a signature “Drama Show” beating that left the Saitama Super Arena boxing crowd cringing. Murata tried to whether the “Drama Show” but in round 9, the accumulation of punishment he took was too much.
Golovkin ended the fight with a devastating right hand that sent Murata crashing to the canvas. After the knockdown, Murata’s corner immediately stopped the fight. Golovkin was awarded the 9th round TKO victory. As a result, he is now the unified WBA (Super), IBF, and IBO middleweight champion.
Conclusion
Gennadiy ‘GGG’ Golovkin is still a beast in the ring. At age 40, he’s still going to be a problem for anyone at middleweight. He does show a weakness in taking shots to the body. Other than that, he still has the potential to beat any of the top middleweights.
With the win over Ryota Murata, Golovkin may have set himself up for a potential Canelo vs. GGG trilogy. Well, what about Boxing World? Will there be a Canelo vs. trilogy?
