On December 3, 2022, Juan Francisco Estrada and Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez will have their trilogy fight. The winner of this fight will capture the vacant WBC junior bantamweight title. This fight will take place at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, and DAZN will air this fight.
In their first fight, Chocolatito was one of the best pound-4-pound fighters in boxing. Estrada challenged Chocolatito for his WBA junior flyweight title. Estrada gave an incredible performance in that fight, but Chocolatito’s pedigree proved to win the night in fight 1. Chocolatito got the 12th round unanimous decision victory and retained his WBA junior flyweight title. That fight was ten years ago, on November 17, 2012.
The rematch took place nine years later, on March 13, 2021. In the rematch, the tide turned as Estrada had worked his way up the pound-4-pound ranks to become one of the best fighters in boxing. Estrada was the WBC and RING junior bantamweight champion. During that time, Chocolatito was working his way back on a comeback trail after losing to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai twice. He was on a 4-fight win streak heading into the rematch with Estrada and captured a WBA (Super) junior bantamweight title in the process.
The rematch was an epic battle, as this fight was considered one of the best fights of 2021. Chocolatito gave Estrada all he could handle in the rematch. Estrada, however, got the close 12th round split-decision victory. Estrada was the new unified WBC, WBA (Super), and RING junior bantamweight champion.
Now Estrada and Chocolatito find themselves in another title fight on December 3, 2022. This time the winner will capture the vacant WBC junior bantamweight title. In 2021, these two fighters produced one of the best fights of 2021. Can they repeat those heights in their trilogy fight on December 3, 2022?
